I made myself another sketchbook last Thursday, killing time before a meeting. I feel that I’ve figured this method out pretty well, and I enjoy figuring out new designs. If someone else is doing this, I haven’t seen it in any of my research. I like how the arrows turned out. Now I’m considering trying to make them point the other direction.
Solomon said that there was nothing new under the sun…but I think that is a pretty nifty binding, nonetheless. If they can point left, why not up and down? Or, one of each…that would indicate real indecision!
Hi Becca, thank you so much for the inspiration! I used this arrow pattern for my book ‘escalator’ (http://goo.gl/QbF79). The cover picture has some motion already and the binding pattern reinforces it.
Much appreciated.
Do you have a pattern for this binding? I’d love to try it!
Not precisely; but this is close: https://beccamakingfaces.com/2011/05/30/japanese-stab-binding-tutorial-arrows/
If you sew this pattern once, you should get the hang of how it works, enough to separate where the horizontal corners touch.
Cheers!
Thanks so much!
Managed to find it – you think of everything. Love the binds!
